Fraternity houses going dry

In this article I would like to express my feelings on why the fraternity houses should not go dry. First of all, I know that there have been a lot of disciplinary problems in the past year or so regarding incidents that took place at fraternity parties. Most of the incidents have occurred with a person not a member of the fraternity. If you are not on the guest list or a member of that fraternity, please do not come.
Secondly, the safety commission feels there is an issue with grades. If anything, I believe that being in a fraternity has helped me with my grades. Before I struggled with my grades. Now I have something to strive for. If I don’t make good grades I get put on probation and I am not able to participate in any events. Also if you look at the average of Fraternity grades to all males on campus, you will see that our grades are higher.
Lastly, there is also concern that fraternities are just known for drinking. That is not true. That is just the only thing publicized. The people never here about the community service we do, the clubs we are in, and the money we raise for our philanthropies. It’s not our fault that the media only puts negative things about us out. We do much more good to out weigh the bad.
In conclusion I am asking the safety commission to reconsider making fraternity houses dry. Please look at the proposal IFC has presented to you. In the end I believe that making fraternity houses will only make matters worse.
